Very cool! I've only been to 4 of them.

Among those my favorite was Keukenhof, featuring floral displays on the grandest of scales and the most pleasant of designs. This is not mere fun and games in Holland ... flowers and bulbs are the country's most valuable export.

The second link has a great slide show. I've been all over this country but haven't seen a lot of these places (I have stood among the giant redwoods........a mind-bending experience.). I think it might be time to plan another trip.....and the possibilities are endless.

I've visited only a third of the parks featured.

Quite by accident we stumbled upon the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park when we were driving through Colorado. We camped there for the night and were absolutely blown away by its magnificence. Most people have never even heard of it. It is not the largest canyon, but to me it impresses the most since it is the deepest in relation to its width. Sunshine seldom if ever reaches the bottom of the canyon, hence its name. I stood on an overhanging outcropping and threw a rock over ... it seemed forever before I head it crash into the river. (You cannot hit the river if you throw a rock off the rim of the Grand Canyon.)

WOW.......what an incredible place. I'll have to add it to my list of Places to See Before I Die.

I'll never forget my trip to the Grand Canyon. We backpacked to the floor and spent the night beside the river. We took two days to hike out...........the rise in altitude will make you weak in the knees when you're carrying a 40 pound pack. The astonishing part of the last day was coming out over the rim, badly sunburned, wearing shorts and tees, and stepping into 30 degree weather and snow! It had been in the neighborhood of 90 degrees when we broke camp that morning, four and a half miles below the rim. You don't grasp that concept of a mile in altitude from the floor to the rim when you're simply standing on either end. You have to hike it to experience the full effect and sheer amazement of it all.

I will say, if you haven't been there........GO! Pictures do not do justice to the natural wonder of these places.

Not quite. Most are photographs of galaxies (extragalactic objects outside our own Milky Way Galaxy). A few of the objects might be planetary nebulae, dust clouds and regions of star formation within our own Galaxy. but they might also be irregular galaxies. I can't quite tell. None have anything to do with Earth.

PS. My apologies! Your caption refers to the hyperlinked Mother Earth from Space, not the YouTube video. I get confuseder and confuseder every day.

I will admit that Enigma (the YouTube video above) is an acquired taste. I discovered them almost a dozen years ago when I first heard their amazing CD The Silence Must Be Heard. To this day, I personally know only one other person that listens to their music.

Our winged friends are quite the interesting group. Their natural nesting abilities could be a lesson for the rest of us.

Well, you have to look at their focus on nurturing their young and propagating their species. None of them actually works solo.....it all comes back to family & community. They work hard to care & provide the essentials of life for their own. Except for that burrowing owl.........he kinda reminds me of a freeloader on the dole.

I see the care taking and nurturing you see. Nature is a lesson to us.

When I saw the word "TRACT HOUSING" in the title link, then looked at the photos, I thought of the poverty of imagination and the corruption of care taking we as people perpetuate through our good intentions. Like your Owl comment suggests, my mind goes to Federally Built Housing Projects. Has this been a success for the community it "serves"? These are hardly nurturing nests for the young...

So sorry for corrupting this thread with POLITICAL philosophizing... Take those flamingos. They as a community are nesting together. They have that strategy of collective survival. There is no pink on pink violence to contend with, or thugocracy, except perhaps, the safest nests are right in the middle of the pack. "Bullies to the middle!!"
