This crap has got to stop. Governments have no business marketing god. They have quite another business, and should start tending to it.

Our Constitution makes it pretty clear that the founders wanted government out of the god business. Government genuflecting to god, bible, and warriors is simply stupid and has to end.

Many of us harbor private revulsion over such sanctimonious rituals ... who among us is brave enough to stand up and cry, "Stop!"

Buena Vista Day Of Prayer Proclamation Signed

A proclamation stating that Buena Vista is observing the National Day of Prayer will be read outside the Municipal Building at noon on Thursday, May 7.

Mayor Mike Clements signed the proclamation, a portion of which notes that “on this National Day of Prayer, we ask God’s continued blessing on our country. This year’s theme, ‘Prayer … America’s Hope,’ is based on the verse from Psalms 33:22, which states, ‘May your unfailing love rest upon us, O Lord, even as we put our hope in you.’ We pray for the safety of our brave men and women in uniform who are serving our country, we pray for their families, and for the comfort and recovery of those who have been wounded to protect our country and our freedom.”

Now more mature, I realize it might have been for the better, Rockbridge County being mostly spared from being rocked by devastating earthquakes!

FIRST AMENDMENT: OBAMA APPEALS NATIONAL PRAYER DAY RULING
One week ago Pres. Barack Obama proclaimed May 6, 2010 to be a National Day of Prayer in accordance with his responsibilities under Public Law 82-324.

I heard no pealing of church bells yesterday, nor were throngs of the faithful seen gathering to give thanks. The only indication that yesterday was National Prayer Day was a full-page ad in the New York Times announcing that Federal District Court Judge Barbara Crabb had ruled that the law is an unconstitutional call to religious action. However, Judge Crabb put enforcement of her ruling on hold pending appeal, allowing already scheduled prayer events to go on.

The ad in the NYT, and perhaps in other newspapers as well, was placed by the Freedom From Religion Foundation, which initiated the court action by suing. It is no accident that the Bill of Rights begins with the establishment clause; many of the framers of the Constitution, having seen the pernicious effects of state religions in Europe, were determined to produce a religion-free document.

They would have been shocked that the Rev. Billy Graham, a Southern Baptist evangelist from North Carolina, could show up at the United States Capitol 164 years later and instruct Congress to pass a law directing the President to urge citizens to pray; Congress dutifully obliged. Moreover, although the law was a clear violation of the establishment clause of the First Amendment, it was allowed to stand unchallenged for 58 years. It required the President of the United States to set aside a day each year as a National Day of Prayer and every President since has meekly complied; it would be political suicide to do otherwise.

Likewise, the President can not publicly thank U.S. Federal District Court Judge Barbara Crabb for upholding the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. I'm not the President, but What's New thanks her.

Warren Jeffs-A Pedophile for All Time

I've been following the saga of this "prophet" for a while now. His trial has been interesting to say the least and sickening to say the worst. As a former LDS member (note I said LDS and NOT FLDS....there is a difference between the two), polygamy is a subject that I can both understand and be baffled by at the same time. I never believed the practice was or is God's word or God's will. I think the practice was/is more man's will. I know why the mainstream church abandoned the practice.....for Utah to gain statehood. I understand the fundamentalist split in the church and why splinter groups formed. Perhaps it wouldn't be a wholly intolerable practice if it were confined to consenting adults........but it's not.

The practice of polygamy that embraces the "marriage" of minors to older men is sickening and beyond outrageous. The creation of these "families" that go on to milk and bleed the welfare systems of various states needs to end.........now. The continued abuse of these children has got to stop. This is a prime example of the wonton abuse of "freedom of religion". Even the old scum sucker Fred Phelps has not stooped to anything this low and vile. The most baffling piece of polygamy is the patriarchal system that holds it together. Women are not allowed to have multiple husbands. It is the men who are supposedly ordained by God to lead that hold this "right and privilege".

There have been numerous documentaries on this subject. There was a book written sometime back about a group of polygamists in Ohio who actually stooped to murder and hiding bodies in order to protect their insane little game. This sect existed in Kirtland, Ohio and involved Jeff and Alice Lundgren. (When I can pull the title of the book to mind, I'll come back and share it). This story vividly illustrates the cult aspects of polygamist sects that include mind control.....sort of like the Manson family overdosed on Jesus and Joseph Smith!

I know I'm babbling on here but this just gets under my skin in the worst sort of way..........it's wrong, it's illegal, and it's immoral.

Back to Jeffs. People like this man (Jim Jones, Ted Haggard, Fred Phelps, Jimmy Swaggert, et al) are at the root of turning good folks away from organized religion. These self proclaimed prophets and "men of God" who preach hate and intolerance while practicing greed, lust, and idolatry are the very antithesis of Jesus.....at least the Jesus I learned about as a child and have read a considerable amount about as an adult. Why would good people, people who believe in helping those less fortunate, loving their neighbors, living a life of honesty and integrity, want to align themselves with people such this? It boggles the mind to think of how many people flock to hear these charlatans speak.........and how many will hand over their hard-earned pay to these self-appointed kings and robber barons.

MAN wrote the bible, not god. it was MAN that interpreted the words from an unforeseen being....all faith....my faith in MAN is about enough to fill a teaspoon. look over time and remember how MAN disrupts the natural life of ALL things for his own well being. remember when the US was a bad as Hitler??? we tried to kill off ALL the Indians....same difference!
