Hook me up, Please!

Postby paxham » 2008 Jun 04 20:31

OK, this is a blantent appeal to hospitality.

I'm into small town America.

I'm into history and I'm into baseball.

I'm not so crazy about hotdogs and apple pie, but here goes.

Can somebody hook me up with some small town, minor league baseball this weekend? I am of the firm belief that history hides in small town America. My brother is coming in tonight and I want to drag him around Virginia and catch a bit of small town American history. I'll trade even with you or better. I will host a local yocal right here in the big city. You say when and I will say where.

Please, don't make me beg.

Here ya go:

http://www.salemavalanche.com/schedule.html

They are playing home games this Friday through next Wednesday. The stadium is nice and it is non-smoking in the stands. I think tickets usually run about $7.00. Friday and Saturday are evening games and Sunday's game is in the afternoon. Beer is available along with the usual fare. Salem is about the size of Lexington......perhaps a shade larger. We do butt up against Roanoke City......ya gotta overlook that shortcoming. We are an easy thirty minutes from Blacksburg and the VT campus. From there, you can check out little burgs such as Radford, Floyd, Christiansburg (they still have a drive-in there). Oh yeah.......we also have easy access to the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Thanks Cally.

I had no idea that Covington had a team. That would be worth a ride on some evening off to catch a game in different league and town. Hmmmm.................the joys of summer or is that the boys of summer?
