My goodness, how slimy this thread has become, if only because of a very few.

Most people have the good sense to speak of the pros and cons of candidates, citing issues of importance to the public. Others revert to the basest mud-slinging, flinging unverifiable personalized allegations around terribly irresponsibly. (Using both misspelled words and poor grammar!)

How about dialing the quality of this debate up a notch?

I have no idea who is better, Day or Clark, but I know with absolute certainty that nothing posted here so far sheds any light on that question. This is the only thing I've found with any meat on it.

 George W. Bush is drowning. You can save him or take a terrific last photo. Would you choose color or black & white film?

So do we have any actual facts yet? :D

Problem when someone holds an elected job for so long they get complacent and start feeling invincible. Some offices have term limits. Might not be a bad idea.

So was it worth the reading Wise One? LOL I came here just to give my opionion as everyone else had. I started getting hit with a million questions about why I would vote Clark and Who Lee rode my back the whole way through. I just found it interesting that one person was so concerned about my view on Day vs Clark.

You are right, no real light has been shed on this subject because too many people are ready to kill if your not on the same brain wave.

Would you like to begin shedding light?

Well perhaps you all can give a concise, coherent, factual and unbiased synopsis of each candidate. That would be a good start for those of us who don't know each candidate.

dp1 You do not know Mr. Clark. He worked at the police department in Waynesboro before being empolyed by the Sheriff's Office in 2001. He also worked as a jail officer and was in the Air Force for 8 years.

Also, the Sheriff hired someone with a lot less experience as head Lt. AND THAT WAS OKAY.

If any of you have any questions about Mr. Clark, please feel free to ask me. I know he will make a great Sheriff! He is dedicated and a hard worker.

VOTE ROBERT E. CLARK FOR SHERIFF!!!!

Im posting this comment only after reading the 3 pages of comments that have been posted.
First let me say to wo lee its very obvious to me and it should be to anyone else that has read your postings you have a personal problem with Mr. clark. And i feel if you have a problem with him you should man up and speak to him personally & not spread your rumors online. Now on to the buisness at hand.
I know both Bob day & robert clark personally. And in my humble opinion I believe it is time for a change. Elected officials tend to get way to comfortable after being in office for a long period of time as Day has. If there is any question in your mind about what i have posted here get one of the deputys by there self when there not on duty and ask them about some of the things that have gone on at the sheriffs office. Just ask if they walk on pins & needles affraid to give there opions on important matters that may affect all of us. They may just be in fear of loosing there jobs also if they do express them selfs. So with that said make up your own mind on nov,6 2007.

Clark for sheriff of rockbridge county :D

Thanks LadyB! Do you know where you could find the debate that Day and Clark had? Someone told me that they heard it via internet and it was really good with Clark smoking Day. Maybe this could clear a few things up too.

Lady, have you noticed that Who Lee disappeared after being called out

My name is Richard Wayne Potter and I reside at 50 Open Ridge Court, Lexington Va. My phone number is 461- 1711. We live in Clarks subdivision.

I have known Robbie Clark since 1974 or 1975. His family lived over top of me at Willow Springs Aps.. Bobby Clark, Robbies dad, was a fine man in my book and would do most, no, anything for you.

My beef with Robbie is that he does what HE wants and makes the rules as he goes. He sent my wife a letter, citing the covenants, that we needed to clean-up around our buildings. We were building a garage at the time and how do you keep a construction site clean everyday? Clarks letter came after we were approched and questioned as to his right to subdivide his lot and use his right of way, across OUR lot, to give the new owners access to their property. I took pictures and went to Clark's place of business to ask him if OUR clean- up was acceptable.

When I went to Clarks that day, I noticed a person I worked with at Dana. He was moping the floor. This person also drew unemployment insurance. I then went into where Clark was and ask him if I could speak with him, if not, I would catch up with him later. Clark ask what did I have and I showed him a copy of the covenants and asked him if my clean-up was acceptable. He said he hadn't had time to look, but he had seen where I had re-stacked some lumber.

While there, I also showed him some pictures of a dirt pile, fallen tree limbs and un-cut grass on his lot. These are not allowed per the covenants. Clark said the tree limbs and the grass were acts of nature (WHAT?) He then ask how was he suppose to move the dirt pile, with a shovel. ? There is a camper on a neighbors lot, which is also a violation of the covenants unless stored in an approved structure, not a tarp. Clark said HE gave them permission. Clark got mad and told me to leave or he would have me escorted off his lot. I told Clark he thought he was God and he said he "was" God according to the covenants.

This is where I say HE makes the rules as he goes. The laws and or covenants, aren't laws, unless Clark says they are. If this is how Clark acts as a president of a subdivision, how do you think he will run your county? The guy at the lube exchange was being paid cash to work there so he could continue to draw unemployment and Clark didn't have to pay taxes. ladyb kept this person's son while he worked. This person is Clarks future brother in law. The mother in law of Clark, or ladyb, is the neighbor with the camper. Clarks wife also offered me a job before they opened and said they would pay me cash. No Thanks.

So now, all you readers, would you like to buy a house in Clarks subdivision? I do have BAL S big enough to I stand for what I believe in. I am not shy to tell the truth. Clark doesn't do well with laws, even laws he wrote. Look around for Clarks signs and ask yourself if the signs are on private property or State Property. This too is a law he chooses to ignore.

ladyb I guess you're about to blow your top along with skini.
I am not looking foward to your call or visit. LOL
ladyb is my sister in law and we are on opposite sides as far as Clark, her her son in law.

lady b I have known little robbie as he was called in his grade school years I was very good friends with his uncle randy. I was not aware of his time in waynesboro and for that fact you are right . BUT I STILL FEEL THAT HE DOES NOT HAVE THE EXPERIENCE TO HANDLE THE POSITION OF SHERIFFF.THAT IS MY OPION WHICH I AM ENTITLED TO . AS FOR YOUR POSTING DIRECTED TO ME ,I WAS UNDER THE ASSUMPTION THIS WAS AN OPEN FORUM I SIMPLY EXPRESSED MY OPION IN WHAT I THOUGHT WAS AN APPROIATE MANNER. IF THIS OFFENDED YOU AND I CAN ONLY ASSUME THAT IT DID BY YOUR SHARP REPLY IT REALLY MAKES ME WONDER IF YOU ARE AS SURE OF THE SITUATION AS YOU WANT EVERYONE TO THINK YOU ARE

dp1,
You think you know Mr. Clark just because you were good friends with his uncle and know him now? You have no idea how good of a deputy he was and how he led the department in criminal arrest. Before he was fired by Day for expressing intrest in running for sheriff, he was very good with investigating situations and finding out information to lead to arrests. I know MR. Clark very well and I know he make a great Sheriff!

Mr. Clark has done more since 2001 for the Sheriff's office than Day has since he was elected in 1991. I know Mr. Clark has plenty of experience to run a Sheriff's Office and knows alot about what goes on in the community unlike Bob Day.

Mr. Clark plans to open up lines of communication with the employees at the Sheriff's Office and let them speak freely of their opinions and give advice on what they do. He also wants to have an open door policy for the citizens so they can come to him whenever they like. Fire and Rescue want to be able to communicate with the Sheriff's Office freely and work together as a team. MR. Clark stated "we are all out to accomplish the same thing, protect and serve." Right now this does not happen between the Sheriff's Office, Fire and Rescue ,State Police, as well as police departments. You can ask ones that are involved about it. The morale at the Sheriff's Office is terrible! Deputies have to walk on pins and needles and can not express how they feel and give advice. This is not right. The Sheriff's Office should work as a team.

Mr. Clark also wants to keep the deputies on the county roads instead of the interstate. There have been more tickets written on the interstate by the Sheriff's Office than the county roads. If we focus on the county roads then other crimes could be detected. I have proof of this.

I KNOW MR. CLARK WILL MAKE A GREAT SHERIFF AND WILL DO EVERYTHING IN HIS POWER TO MAKE THINGS WORK!

VOTE ROBERT CLARK FOR SHERIFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

LadyB

It seems like Who Lee and Dp just have personal issues with Robbie that are going to be held over his head in running for sheriff. Everyone of us makes mistakes and everyone of us has a past, even Day!

I think we could go on and on but there is a few people that are still big fans of Day and aren't ready for change.

I guess we can only hope for change and stand for voting CLARK FOR SHERIFF :) :) :)

Changing the subject slightly, there's a really important race on for our next county Board of Supervisors. Talk about room for improvement -- what could be a better race to pay attention to?

My favorite publication in this area is the Rockbridge Advocate, packed as it is with news people really talk about but nobody else is brave enough to print, and with delightful humor.

The Advocate has a terrific column this month, each candidate for Supervisor answering questions. The answers are wonderfully revealing of the differences we have to choose among.

Some candidates, especially the challengers, are clear, articulate, and forthcoming with positive ideas about making this a better place.

Others, especially the incumbents, convey a sense of lazy arrogance, as if they are entitled to hold their offices in perpetuity, spouting only bumbling platitudes that mean nothing, or short and dismissive answers that convey only contempt for the voter.

I'd say a pretty thorough house-cleaning is in order. And if you want to encourage one local publication to continue to reveal the truth, while keeping fresh and up to date on local news, subscribe to Rockbridge Advocate

COLTich wrote:That old thread was all over the place. Wonder how many of you were at the Forum at the High School. If you take the NG or RockWeekly, you will see this Wed. If you think I am preaching, I am!

It was certainly disappointing to see such a low turnout at the Sep 18 Supervisor Candidate Forum at the high school. This forum was certainly a great, lost opportunity for voters to see all of the candidates in action and ask them what they would do to solve the many lingering problems facing our beloved county. It was even more disappointing that only one incumbent (Comstock) showed up, and he is running unopposed. Current supervisors could have been asked what they would do differently if reelected, or whether they would continue to govern as they have during the ending term.

Has democracy in Rockbridge County been beaten down so far that not even all of the candidates for election participate in a citizen information meeting? Should I assume that all of the voters in the county know the positions of all of the candidates and did not need to waste their time coming to a forum set up specifically for their education? Should I assume that some candidates did not participate because the "fix is in"? What do the government class students who worked to set up the forum think about the attendance and participation? I was embarrassed as an American and a citizen of Rockbridge County on that night.

I do want to end on a positive note, however. The Rockbridge County Conservation Council did a great job in conjunction with Rockbridge County High School students and faculty in setting up this much needed forum. This election is the most critical to this county in a long time. I personally thank RACC and the High School for providing this service.

I also want to thank the candidates who participated. They are a fine group of upstanding men who have put a lot of effort into preparing themselves for the office they seek. They showed an obvious love and concern for our beautiful county. They demonstrated that they have a pretty firm handle on the challenges facing the county and what needs to be done to meet these challenges. I urge all citizens who were not at the forum to contact the candidates from their districts and find out what they are going to do to fix this place before it is too late.

Then vote for the Best candidate!

A breath of fresh air. Thank you WO for the link to the Rockbridge Advocate. I really enjoyed reading the answers from the delegates and it really helped me make up my mind on who I will vote for. I noticed that Patterson had some very specific and indepth answers to the questions and really gave me a good understanding of where he is coming from. I didn't agree with one of his answers but thats fine.

Sure did appreciate this bit of information. It really helped.

Thanks, Beck.

Jim Tichenor posted a very nice set of follow-up questions and answers on his RAIL web site.

:? As usual, Hotinger (gasbag, fool, and full of contempt for the voter) didn't respond. :?
