Old Political Paradigms Are Changing?

Postby Crux » 2016 May 11 20:12

Drudge headlines:

Middle class takes hit in most cities...
Incomes have fallen in four-fifths of all metro areas...
New American Home: Multi-Generational Living on Rise...

Big Government sucks and the Democrat Party is The Party of Big Government!

Record Taxes, Record Debt, Record Deficits, Record Poverty, Record Unemployment, Record Dependency...

Hello Cruxy,

Long time no see. Not in the mood again today to be argumentative, but just so you're not disappointed the question must be posed:

When you write things like "record deficit" and "record unemployment", do you actually think about what you're writing or do your fingers just automatically translate ethereal subliminal messages into tangible BS?

THERE. Fixed it, although...

Of course the real unemployment rate has just this year, for now, recovered to a pre recession rate.
Of course every annual Federal deficit over the Obama years was a record as compared to Bush's dinger of 540 billion.

So glad there was so little to argue with.

Yep, Coondog barked correctly. Cruxie, you just pull stuff out of the air, or some a-orifice, without reading or understanding it. Critical thinking is not your strong suit.

The actual root of Drudge's random splattering is this Financial Times Article, in turn relying on this Pew Research Center report.

It covers the time period from 2000 to the 2014. Here's what is going on.
  • The middle class shrank because people around the country moved from middle to wealthy (rarely, and mostly where there was new energy extraction), and more frequently in the reverse direction.
  • The Bush/Republican recession, with an inevitable lag, caused adjustments. Duh. Serious climbing out of the recession was strongest after the report's period of coverage.
  • One of those adjustments was an increase in multi-generational housing as people ejected from the middle class found they could no longer afford their own housing. Children and old folks moved in with the middle generation. They are starting to move back as times are improving.
  • Republican policies favoring the rich operate at the expense of all others. A few people moved into the wealthy category, and many moved into the poor category. Obama has been a complete failure in addressing this structural problem because doing so depends on actions that can only be taken by Congress. Republican majorities have stymied every effort.
:coffee:

PS. Congratulations on your mentoring Donald Trump, whose infantile approach is so similar to your own that we must believe it could only have been honed to perfection at your knee.

Well, there is the small matter of "Record Taxes". That's not remotely accurate unless we choose to narrow our comparison:

Record Taxes, compared to 1816 and ignoring the ensuing 200 years.

Record Debt, Record Poverty, Record Dependency. Yep! Doubling military expenditures won't lower the debt. Keeping the minimum wage at $7.25 won't alleviate poverty. Disqualifying assistance recipients would certainly reduce dependency, but to what end?

But, why worry about stuff like that? We're all going to be winners when Charlie Sheen.....uh, Donald Trump, is elected president. We're going to get sooooooo tired of winning.

I find myself again in agreement with your perspective, but must say I am seriously disappointed in your latest posting.

Where are the cats? They are no more, have ceased to be, are expired, your posting is bereft of images/videos.

Don't expect cats all the time. The are nobody's best friend. It's just an effort to attract as many users to the Forum as they have on Facebook; and pictures of cats seem to be the primary appeal. :tiphat:

Speaking as a friend of cats, they are my friends. I have one that is jet black and a wicked hunter. Loves catnip, too.

Besides, FB is all about the coffee........not cats.

What we're seeing here is the result of Forum Deprivation!

Like buttons? Share buttons? Those are for people who are too lazy to respond, or have nothing to say, or have become so addicted to FB they can only muster enough energy to push a single button. Facebook (and Donald Trump) will be the end of civilization as we once knew it. Let us not even contemplate Like Buttons.

Now, to stay on topic, cats and coffee. This is how Coondog starts the day:

First, do some harm. How to smear a disfavored candidate on the NYTs front page

A worthy read as is most everything these folks put forth. I have read a fair number of their dissections of pertinent stories of the day. The MSM is failing the public badly and they just don't seem to care anymore.

There is no MSM. The same thing happened to it that happened to Hillary Clinton. It has been demonized for years as failing to validate obscure conspiracies and questionable journalistic speculations. Unlike Clinton, the MSM has managed to validate the demonization by eschewing journalism in favor of competing with bloggers with vivid imaginations sequestered with laptops in their grandmothers' basements.

Orwell missed the mark by about 30 years and also the source of misinformation. Big Brother isn't the government, it's the once empty recesses of proletariat brains now over saturated with monkey speak and subliminal suggestions that spiders are crawling up their backs.

Somewhere out there is a land where integrity is a virtue and intellectualism is not a disease. This ain't it.

Here's to the Main Stream Media in particular and Social Media in general:
