Not since my reading of Benjy's chapter years ago have I seen so raw an example of stream of consciousness writing. I didn't understand Faulkner then, and I don't understand crux now.

It could be argued that a stream of unconsciousness (silence) might pack more actual content.

I might add folks that,we don't dare to use anything that might be negative to the Muslim community for fear of retaliation but its open, war on the Christians

Sam, this sounds like just another phony "war on Christmas" rumpus, no actual facts underlying your hysterical charge. Americans have been caught/observed doing the following:
  • Burning the Koran very publicly as an insult. Got any examples of Americans burning the Christian bible publicly?
  • Muslim employees being fired for wearing a head scarf. Got examples of employees being fired for wearing a cross or a palm Sunday forehead smudge? (actually I did find one but it took a lot of work; quashed by the court so the "war' didn't get far.)
  • Local and national demonstrations against the "world trade center mosque." Got any examples of outraged public demonstrations against the construction of a Christian church because it is Christian rather than mundane zoning/parking issues?
  • Death threats from fellow employees for being Muslim. Got examples of that for Christians in America?
Just what in the world makes you charge that there is an "open war on Christians" in the United States, where most of the population is actually Christian?

Christianity used to do quite well when it preached a positive message of love and peace from the pulpit.

I would suggest that the decline of Christianity in the US began with the marriage of televangelism and politics. (We can thank at least two prominant Virginians for spearheading that one). This marriage has produced a negative message of hate and distrust. And, its not enough to encourage religious tenents among believers.....the effort now is to intrusively legislate those tenents as to impose them on adherents and non-adherents alike.

Beyone that is the expansion, through religious backed initiatives which overlap the secular sector. The current flap over mandated health care coverage is simply a manifestation of that overlap. As it is no longer sufficient for religion to preach encouragment or discouragment, but to actively impose mandates of it's own......this imposition comes into conflict with secular social norms.

The battle should not be over whether the government is stepping on religious freedom. Adherents to religious tenents will act according to how much stock they place on those tenents. In this case it becomes A) The church fails to control the behavior of it's own members and B) The church wants to expand it's influence beyond the scope of their own adherents.

The battle should be over whether Religion, seeking expanded influence by intrusion into secular politics, amounts to overreach on the part of Religion. The government isn't mandating the use of contraception by anyone.....only the availability thereof to everyone. Government regulatory initiatives needs be inclusive. Religion......not so much!

This appears to be a case of seeking representation without taxation.

Coondog :angel5:

There's a lot of stuff Religion, by virtue of being Religion, doesn't pay for. By contrast, this is a very, very small matter and certainly not a War. But, if it takes a War to shove Religion back into it's proper role in society, maybe it's about time we had one!

Ok little lady, this was one Republican - if you read the whole thing its the Republican Governor who overhauled the funding program for all religious schools. This shows a lack of tolerance. And people like you folks keep preaching tolerance. Think I really need that Jack Daniels. Here is a Democrat who reveals herself, yet again, as an as---- with no idea what American democracy is or why it is so very wonderful and needs to be defended from people like herself.

Feel the warm fuzzies here. Same could be said for the democrats. Why little lady do you have to be so miserable and vicious. We may be on opposite side but do you have to use such wording. Golly my Mom taught me to treat ladies with respect but I got to say its very difficult to do that in some cases. Gotta keep counting to ten

PS. I don't know whether the breaking news below indicates that Chick-Fil-A is a toxic place to work, or if the food you eat there is toxic. Either way, maybe it's a good place to steer clear of.
Chick-Fil-A Vice President Of Corporate Public Relations Dies (posted 07/27/2012)

Donald A. Perry, the vice president of corporate public relations for Chick-fil-A, died of a heart attack on Friday morning, Columbus Georgia's WRBL News 3 reports. The company confirmed the news in a statement to the Atlanta Journal Constitution.

"Don was a member of our Chick-fil-A family for nearly 29 years," the statement reads, according to the AJC. "For many of you in the media, he was the spokesperson for Chick-fil-A. He was a well-respected and well-liked media executive in the Atlanta and University of Georgia communities, and we will all miss him."

According to a biography from the University of Georgia, from which Perry graduated in 1974, he began working at Chick-fil-A in 1983, and he was "responsible for external communications and publicity programs in support of key company initiatives."

Chick-fil-a has been dealing with a public relations firestorm following comments that the company's president, Dan Cathy, made last week. Cathy said that his company supports "the biblical definition of the family unit" and that he prays "God's mercy on our generation that has such a prideful, arrogant attitude to think that we have the audacity to try to redefine what marriage is about."

It would be sad...

Postby crux » 2012 Jul 28 22:31

...if the man died as a result of the recent stress incurred by the bigots on the Left. Look. If the founder of the restaurant chain is a Christian who eschews the notion of gay marriage, so be it. He has the right to his faith and opinion. There are really rather few Christians who exercise the kinds of hate as we see directed towards said Christians!

The issue is divisive. Folks disagree. Maybe the right answer is again TOO MUCH GOVERNMENT. Contracts entered into between parties, marriages, shouldn't have State involvement perhaps. It is what it is. There are plenty of gays who respect marriage for what it is. Plenty others see it as a heterosexual social institution, and want no part of it.

The issue for Many others is social agitation and poking the finger in the eye of a religion that sees homosexuality a sin.

It is what it is...

This asshole was born and raised in Lexington, an eternal stain on its reputation. Father and son were cut from the same soiled and stinky cloth.
His ignorance knows no bound, as does his inclination to spew rigid, knee-jerk, wrong and hurtful conclusions on the basis of nearly zero information.

Such stuff has made this jerk filthy rich ,,. the American marketplace evidently puts little value on product quality.

I can't hardly call Pat Robertson a good christian. He is an old man. I think the only serious recommendation he made was to seek counseling. He could have left it at that. My understanding and appreciation of the faith is exclusive of the PRs. Asshole? Feel better now? AO? Poor boy... :pat:

One would think the Libs here would see the goodness of Christianity.

Nope. Moral equivalency and selective moral outrage keeps them focused on the bible. The violence against the human psyche, women and the innocent as perpetrated by Islam is startling and tremendous relative to the peaceful charitable christian faith. The kinds of attacks and words levied here against "bibles! and religion(christianity)!" is the stuff which would get you dead by the hand of the jihadis around the world.

One might elevate the best of the faith, and hold it up within a secular society as good. Not here.
__________________________________________________________________________

Just facts.

It is September 11, 2012. AO posts only this bashing of PR. Meanwhile, rioters over ran two US Embassies, tore down the US flag in Egypt, and killed 4 Americans including our Ambassador in Libya!! All this because someone insulted the Prophet Mohamed in some youtube video somewhere... Here is the pathetic statement issued by our weak State Department:

"The Embassy of the United States in Cairo condemns the continuing efforts by misguided individuals to hurt the religious feelings of Muslims — as we condemn efforts to offend believers of all religions. Today, the 11th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the United States, Americans are honoring our patriots and those who serve our nation as the fitting response to the enemies of democracy. Respect for religious beliefs is a cornerstone of American democracy. We firmly reject the actions by those who abuse the universal right of free speech to hurt the religious beliefs of others."

Obama has got to go. I hope the polls are a replay of Mondale, or Carter when come November, we see a landslide.

Ah! Crux!

When will you come to the realization that your minority opinions are not facts and that Obama is not personally responsible for everything that happens in the world. Neither Romney nor Obama are respnsible for what you or I write here in these hallowed forum pages.....or for statements made by anyone else far removed from the auspices of authority.

Quite possibly, the makers of this obscure, Muslim baiting film (which I have not seen and have no intent on watching) have concocted this intimidation in response to the Islamic hatred spouted by the right wing. Clearly, the existence of this film was utilized by an Islamic political dirt bag to gin up hate from that quarter for the same self-serving, sad-ass reasons.

Romney's knee jerk response was idiotic and only serves to illustrate the fact that he has no business running any country, much less this one. Your response is certainly consistent with Romney's.

I know you and Romney live in a world of Quips and Slogans and Bumper Sticker Mentality, but the world is more complcated than that. Issues are complex, particularly those of international diplomacy. If one is eluded by this complexity, one might just shut up and go back to something they know........like vulture capitalism or dressage.

In light of this incident, I'm surprised the republicans aren't clammoring for military action against some uninvolved country like Boatswanna.

Your President is aiding The Muslim Brotherhood

Postby crux » 2012 Sep 12 11:11

I am not down with that. I am not down with the 'dog's world view either. So be it. Notice the protestors wearing the Guy Faukes masks? Occupy and Jihadi solidarity. Who'd a thunk it. 1 Billion dollars to the MB. Who'd a thunk it. BO is too busy to meet with Netanyahu. He has time to meet with the new MB President in Egypt. 2 Embassies over run on 911 and an Ambassador killed. No biggie.

Just keep on cheering the unsustainable spending and voting for the Great Spender, 'dog. Shut your eyes. :sigh:

PS Romney's reaction is hardly knee jerk. Stay blind to the threat to PEACE and security because of the terrorizing forces of Islam around the world. Romney has re-iterated very traditional sane statements about our security, and this dangerous situation. I actually remember the pain of helplessness that was the Carter reaction in 79. Now. Obama...

Libs talk about over reactions on our part. Pathetic. The Islamists brought the fight to us. Grow up. It is a dangerous world and your boy Barry is making it more so. Inviting the Muslim Brotherhood right into the White House. Really?

Crux, as usual, swallowed hook line and sinker the Romney/rightwingnut propaganda release of the day. The quote he dutifully parroted is an anachronism.

That is, the statement was released after the movie became news, but BEFORE the attacks occurred. (Reference)

So the statement was precisely the correct response by a responsible government. After the attacks occurred, the Obama released a statement that was again precisely correct.
