Adventures in Glasgow

Postby Glasgow » 2014 Jan 14 17:21

Tonight January 14, 2014 at 7:00 PM the Glasgow Town Council will meet. This should be an interesting meeting--new mayor, three new council members. Two of the speakers on tonight's agenda have been threatened with arrest if they show up at Town Hall. Let's see if an official town function at the Glasgow Library is included in the list of prohibited locations.

You have us on pins and needles, sitting on the edge of our chairs.

What happened?

The two citizens of Glasgow were not arrested, The non-resident Town Manager (citizen of North Carolina) controlled the meeting so that they could not talk until the very end of the meeting's agenda, previously public comment was right after the pledge of allegiance.

The Town Manager then was reprimanded by the two citizens, forcing him to apologize publicly to four citizens he had insulted, called ugly names, alleged crimes and all kinds of unsavory things. Called himself, excuse me, an Asshole. Then the whole meeting devolved into chaos that was video-taped and one town employee charged the Town Manager with abuse and resigned, the Council would not accept his resignation. And all that time the Mayor didn't do anything to control the meeting.

Now the Town is divided and the Mayor and Council are not responding to the crime of the Town Manager trying to suppress the citizen's Freedom of Speech and violating their first amendment rights and breaking his own oath of office to support the Constitution of the United States. Some citizens are on the Manager's side, some on the citizen's side and when asked about the employee who resigned we are told that they can't talk about it.

Talk about an open government. Don't look for one in Glasgow.

Civil Rights Violations by Glasgow Town Manager

Postby Iawaken » 2014 Jan 17 04:09

What to do? What to do? A local government official tried to suppress the 1st Amendment rights of some citizens in Glasgow. He actually had them forced from the Town Hall with threat of being arrested for causing a public disturbance when the citizens went to request to be put on the Town Meeting Agenda. He accused them of being bullies and control freaks and had the Town Sergeant escort them out.

Well, my friends, these two gentlemen were not intimidated they appeared at the Town Meeting anyway. The Town manager was then called down on his public demonstration of abuse of power, misuse of public resources (town sergeant), false accusations, threat of false arrest and publicly admitted his wrong-doing and apologized not just to the two citizens, but two other people he had abused. Later in the meeting he was again accused of abuse by a town employee who tried to resign having had taken too much.

At this point the Mayor and Town Council is aware their Town Manager is the mirror image of the things he accused the two citizens of being. That he has admitted to criminal actions in that he broke his oath of office, tried to suppress citizen's rights under the same document he swore to support, abused the town's citizens and employees, misused resources and threatened false legal action. Yet the Town Mayor and Council have not responded to this matter.

So I must ask the advice of all citizens, should the Town Manager be formally charged with civil rights violations and the Town by inaction accused of negligence, is there enough to file charges with the Attorney General?

Re: Free Speech...protecting the Right

If you all want to actually see people's freedom of speech denied, instead of just 'theorizing on it', come to Glasgow and meet with our Town Manager who has, and I believe still is, tried to trample citizen's free speech. This battle is just beginning and it will be an interesting lesson in just how much Americans care about our rights and how we can protect them. So far the Glasgow government entities have not responded to the Town Managers admitted actions nor taken action to reprimand him. Is this a case in which charges should be filed against the Town Manager for violating his oath to support the Constitution of the United States and violating a citizen's civil rights?

It is not just in DC, check out the little town of Glasgow, where the Town Manager is trying to suppress Freedom of Speech.

OK OK already. Glasgow has a Town Manager. There is strife. Division. Anger.

Got it...

The Town Manager for a year has not yet become a resident of Virginia, County or Town, he remains a citizen of North Carolina. He is second to the Mayor in Emergencies and the absence of the mayor, but he will not be available if either situation occurs. When a citizen tried to bring this problem and the conflicts within the Town Code and Charter this Town Manager tried to have him arrested for public disturbance and denied him his freedom of speech to bring the matter before the Town Council.

What would you do If someone tried to trample your first amendment rights?

Fair enough, if you wish to observe an active suppression of the 1st amendment come to Glasgow and speak to the Town Manager, is that more palatable? Not t'rying to be rude but I have heard all the rhetoric of those who are not 'actively' fighting for their freedom.
