The Definition of "American'

Postby Coondog » 2012 Jul 30 10:52

Being an 'American', it seems, entails a 'God Given' right to lable people un-American based on some principle of 'Otherness' defined by those who consider themselves 'American' to the exclusion of anybody who doesn't conform to whatever self-endowed characteristics they consider to exemplify their own ethnocentric definition of 'Americanism'

This particular brand of McCarthyism currently employed by the likes of Limbaugh, Bachmann, Bouchelle and........crux is nothing more than a dog whistle response to whatever mythical otherness Barak Obama epitomizes in their Pavlovian minds relative to the standard of 'Americanism' they have convinced themselves represents the 'Norm'.

The fact that a man is elected to the Presidency of the United States, by a considerable margin, through a constitutionally mandated, American democratic process is about as 'American' as it gets.

So.....if we are to compare and contrast levels of 'Americanism', which it seems our internal response mechanisms say we must, let us set that standard based on the results of that electoral process.

Demeaning the President of the United States as un-American demeans the Country. Let us not judge his 'Americanism' by our own standard, but let us judge ours by his. This 'un-American' nonsense is a sad commentary on the character of those who friviously toss that term about. It's not the Country which has changed so much over the past decades......it's the lack of character of so many of the people in it. Americans all..........but poorly represented by their callousness, disingenuousness and aversion to that which is true.

Call them like you see them, culturally.

Postby Crux » 2012 Jul 30 11:32

Is Socialism, American? Is a "negative rights" view of the Constitution American? Is the kind of government controlled wealth redistribution we have now, American? Is a cultural battle against the rights of individuals, American? These things happen in America but are they "American" in a traditional cultural sense... Is the attack on the Catholic Church by the State, American? Is the kind of intrusive government we foster today, American? Is pure democracy American? Is the racially biased way hate crimes applied by the AG American?

I simply say no. This isn't some great demeaning of our country or our President. :geek: America will be what it will be.

BO identifies with Marxist/Communist "culture". It is clear by his words, his appointments, and his transformational self.

Yes! That's America! It's nothing new!

They said for him to take it easy so he's not watching me like a hawk no more which is a good thing so maybe strokes are not all bad, huh?

My neighbor, you know the same one had the dog that died in my basement last year, has been laughing at me behind my back when she talks to neighbors cause I keep making a tiny little mistake on "isochemical" when I should say "ischemic stroke." She is so mean you cant believe it. If her new dog ever comes in my yard I would do it to that one too but maybe thats not a good idea cause she is watching me like a hawk. She's a terrible person I hate her. That sherriff's deputy too, you know the one that caused me all the troubles after they found the dead dog in the river.

I'm still all worried about Romney cause those same stupid neighbors say they will vote for him even tho he's a mormon. Can you believe that? He might win cause even a one legged dog could beat Obama maybe since everybody knows hes a socialist muslin from Kenya. I think crux is the only one here who sees what's going on cause Obama sure is Unamerican its obvious. When I was a young girl here the coloreds knew their place in Virginia but its gone all crazy now, same with the illegal aileens. I remember they could only sit in the balcony at the State Theater but now they get to sit anywhere and that's just the beginning of the problems.

My husbands OK now and is even travelling sometimes for small jobs for a few hours. That's when I get to sneek up here for the computer, so you guys are lucky, huh?

Bye for now and I'll get on again soon as possible. I might have some stuff about the chickens and dogs in Lexington but thats for later.

Remember the Solidarity Movement in Poland?

Postby Crux » 2012 Jul 30 14:30

Leck Walesa is endorsing Romney. Interesting... Poland has some history with Socialism/Communism. There are lots of things that can be described as NOT American in cultural terms. Going to bat for Israel has been an American ideal. Until Barry.

He has managed to distance himself from Catholics, Jews, "typical whites" I suppose, small business owners. Curious.

Leck?

Postby Coondog » 2012 Jul 30 17:12

Hey, that was Lech. Leck a nickname is Lech's nine toed, obesity challenged half-sister who runs a light bulb installation company and lives in a yurt on the tiny island of Polochniavort.

Speaking of distancing oneself....we also note that Lech's former Solidarity Union ran away from his ramarks like a scalded cat.

International Endorsements Important

Postby Crux » 2012 Jul 31 08:02

Both from those who have thrown off the yoke of Socialism, and from those who champion it.

Obama has consistently gotten the nod from Chavez, Lulu and Fidel...

BTW, have you read the exact words of his "endorsement"? They seem very mild, more like idle politeness than thoughtful and enthusiastic endorsement.

The back story is that Walesa was pissed off at Obama because he'd once used the phrase "Polish death camp" in a speech rather than the longer and more accurate "Nazi death camp in German-occupied Poland." Brevity is usually a virtue in public speaking, but apparently not this time.

Sensitivity on this point probably derives from Polish guilt. For example, in 1941 Polish citizens slaughtered 1,600 Jews in the small northeastern town of Jedwabne. They were knifed, drowned, throats cut, babies trampled, remaining Jews then herded into a barn and set afire. German Nazis were not the sole European perpetrators of genocide against Jews.

From many accounts, Walesa appears to have transformed himself from national hero into grumpy old man. He irritated most everybody and was thrown out of elected office and his union.

I would like to say that Mitt Romney and enthusiastic endorsement don't belong in the same sentence......but, that would be wrong.

Political affiliation has driven ordinarily rational and intelligent people to the same sort of madness that drives Packer fans to sport oversized wedges of cheese on their heads, people to wear 'Joker' masks to movie theaters, poison trees, shoot strangers for no good reason and get tattoos of Lady GaGa on their backsides.

Political discourse in this country makes English League Soccer fans look dignified. And it's not about some reasonable approach to governance.....it's only about a sports fan mentality of winning and losing.....and noone hesitates to hurl profanities at the referee......even when he's right.

I consider myself passionate about politics, because it does, in the end, matter. But I'm not rabid about it! I wouldn't sacrifice my own self interest (or self respect) or that of my family for Obama or any other political Yahoo. What form of demonic possession spurred good friends of mine (who watch Fox News and sincerely but illogically believe Obama is a disease to be erradicated) to donate their vacation money to the Romney Campaign? The same irresponsible urge that causes one to take the rent money and buy a Fat Head of Eli Manning. Sorry kids! No trip to Dollywood this year. Mitt needs our money more than we do! C'mon Man!

So your favorite team wins the Super Bowl. Whadda you get? Nothin but a quick rush and the license to do this:
Then it's back to drug & steriod use, gun violations, and wife beating in the off season. Yeah,Team!

Rabid self identification with abstract constructs. Just like Tea Party Politics! Foaming at the Mouth!

Obama is not the disease that's turning America into an insane asylum. It's the rabies!

My Republican cronies and I run some sweet little bidnesses.

You know, check-cashing joints where we skim the small paychecks of poor people, appliance and car loans with interest rates and penalties that poor people cannot possibly pay so we get to repossess them and start the scam all over using the same item, phony insurance sold to servicemen with high premiums and no payout, mortgage scams and bundled mortgage securities. You get the idea.

It's a sweet deal for us. But then along came Elizabeth Warren, the bitch, ruining everything. So me and my Republican buddies chipped in to make this great video. It's Huge! Take that, Injun Princess!
