This is a good tutorial on the legal status of "executive privilege" with a reasoned prediction on the eventual outcome of this kerfuffle.
This flop seems indistinguishable from a thousand other flops and injustices spawned by the misguided American War on Drugs. It's long past time to declare victory and move on to real problems.

The ATF is not known for results deemed desirable. It's miscalculations and bumbling have been an embarassment to administration after administration. They're like an unruly child. If you don't watch them every minute, they do something inane and destructive.
Sam points out that there was approval at the upper levels of government with the general concept.....but not with the specific operational details. As I said before, the intentions were honest.... whether under Bush or Obama and whatever the operation's name is. It is unfortunate that they left it to the ATF to carry out the operation. Eagle Scouts could have done a more competent job of it.
Ya want to limit the size of government? Get rid of the ATF!
The petulent children on the republican led committeed have jumped on the opportunity to make themselves obnoxious with the undisguised glee of a rat in a box of Cheerios. Having no original thoughts in their own heads, their siblings in the house of representatives will likely follow along like the lemmings they consistently emulate.

DOJ originally DENIED the existence of the program..
Congress was misled (lied to). If you can not see the forest or the trees, you are helpless. Holder has not been honest. "Deny, delay and recuse..." according to Issa.
